Microbiome & metagenomics enquiries
Match the method to the question: targeted marker sequencing and shotgun metagenomics offer different views of a microbial community.
Where this fits your work
- Compare community composition across environmental or research samples
- Discuss 16S/ITS marker projects and their target regions
- Explore broader taxonomic and functional profiles with shotgun designs
Build a complete project brief
| Item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Sample context | Sample matrix, origin, storage and extraction history; confirm acceptance first. |
| Method | Choose marker region or shotgun approach; long-read options need separate assessment. |
| Study controls | Discuss extraction blanks, negative controls and biological replication. |
| Analysis scope | Agree database version, host-read handling, sample grouping and functional analysis. |
Define what you receive
- Sequence files and agreed read-filtering summaries.
- Taxonomic tables, diversity or functional outputs as scoped.
- A documented method and database version, with interpretive limitations.
These are quotation checklist items, not a guarantee that every listed output is included. Ask us to define the exact scope before ordering.
A local conversation. A clearly scoped project.
Share your sample count, intended output and preferred schedule. Bio-Dream coordinates the quotation and Hong Kong delivery arrangements.

Do marker studies and shotgun data answer the same questions?
Not fully. Marker sequencing focuses on selected loci; shotgun samples DNA more broadly. Resolution, bias and functional inference differ.
Does detecting microbial DNA establish an infection?
No. These are research enquiries. DNA detection alone does not establish viability or clinical causation.
